Presented by UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts, this iconic 80s musical develops the ancient game of chess into a metaphor for political and romantic intrigue. With music by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and lyrics by Tim Rice, the story involves a politically driven, Cold War-era chess tournament between two grandmasters—an American and a Soviet—and their fight over the woman who manages one and falls in love with the other.
