In his exceptional masterwork, Johannes Brahms confronts one of the great struggles of our human existence. The emotional response to a loved one’s death is a universal experience which we all must bear. In his Requiem, Brahms provides loving words of comfort for the ailing soul by carefully selecting passages from Martin Luther’s German translation of the Bible. Long considered a classic, Ein deutsches Requiem is a nobly spiritual work. While entitled A German Requiem, Brahms intended his music for all of humanity and is a shining statement of faith in the promise of new life. A musical highlight of the year!
